Re: Cat Claw Trimming
(Anonymous) 2015-08-03 12:20 am (UTC)(link)Trimming her nails is definitely a two person job. Someone should hold the body, and someone else to hold the paw still and trim. I hear some people have had luck with distracting cats with some sort of treat they can lick - there are special "goo" type treats for cats, though a small dab of peanut butter will do the trick too. Of course, if your cat is really stressed, they aren't going to take the treat, but it does help for some!
Also, trimming at a time when the cat is already very relaxed, so you can ease into it. I've found that gently waking a cat up from a nap, talking in a soothing tone and stroking them as you hold them still, they won't be happy but they might be too tired to realize what's going on.
You probably know this, but also be very careful not to cut too low! It's normal for cats to not want their nails trimmed, but if they do ever get knicked by the clipper going too low, they will definitely remember that and associate the act with pain.
Re: Cat Claw Trimming
I might try the treat trick too, see if it works, thanks so much!
