So what do we think? Is Gerry really a villain after all? I know that the victim was bent as hell, but did Gerry really kill him? He does seem to admit he was "responsible" for the guy's death but that covers a lot of sins. I think it is such a shame Dennis Waterman is leaving, because this has been the strongest season opener for a while. Even Danny isn't such a grating Marty Stu as he was last season, and Anthony Calf has lost weight compared to the previous season too. I hope they manage to maintain the dramatic weight through the season once Gerry goes (under a cloud, it seems) especially since most of the heavy lifting is going to have to be done by Anthony Calf and Denis Lawson (the others are just a bit too flimsy as actors to really carry any dramatic weight). It is great seeing a glimpse into Gerry's morally-grey-as-hell past though, and the glorious 70s hair and moustaches.

I haven't seen much of the last few series but I rather enjoyed that. The flashbacks were done nicely and the ambiguity of Gerry's involvement handled well. It was enough to make me watch again next week.

I liked the small, unknowing, connection between a young Sandra and a young Gerry. if this were a bigger fandom there would already be a flood of new fic based on those two lines alone.

Yes, that was nice. Also liked Bernard Cribbins mentioning Jack and Brian.

You never really know with fic though. Okay, so a flood won't happen but there might be one or two really good fics come out of it eventually.

Bernard Cribbens being a bad guy too, although since they also had legendarily nice guy Richard Briers as the most evil and chilling killer in the entire series, in an earlier season I was kinda prepared for that.
