One in Bethesda. We will be right next to the Bethesda metro stop.

So Red Line. IF IT WERE ME and costs pan out, I'd seriously give BWI consideration. BWI to Union via MARC (it's about 45 minutes on a commuter train, so pretty comfy), hop the red line right at the train station up to Bethesda (about 20 minutes, less than ten stops).

Put in that I was going from BWI to Washington DC. And it says it is only $7. Is that correct???

How often do the trains run? I can't seem to find that info.

There's the schedules for you. Penn Line's what you want, from BWI Marshall Airport. Weekends aren't quite as frequent as the weekday so you'd have to plan for that for the return, but they're pretty frequent during the week. Southbound runs more often in the morning during the week, northbound in the evening.

We will be arriving on a Thursday. But does $7 sound right for that whole train ride? That seems really cheap.

Yup, $7 one way is right. :) They've actually raised it a little since I took it last, haha.

And then to add, it looks like the Metro fare is about $3 to get from Union to Bethesda, so about $10 total.

Yeah, I can only barely understand those damn metro fare things.

If you're using Metro at all to get around, do yourself a favor and get a SmarTrip card. It's $2 plus whatever balance you want to put on it because they now charge a $1 for each swipe to use the paper farecards that you can get at the kiosks. It's paid for itself in two uses, so.

SmarTrip fare is either $3.75 (peak) or $2.95 (off-peak) from Union to Bethesda. Add a dollar for the paper card if you use those.

Well, we know we want to get the 7 Day SmarTrip card (7-Day Fast Pass $59.25). We are just trying to figure out what day to use it. Since we will be in NY most of Saturday. So we were going to buy one to use from Sunday-Saturday.

We will be there ten days though. So, for the 3 days we won't have the SmarTrip card (the Thursday we arrive, that Friday and Saturday. And then the Sunday we leave), we don't know if we should get the one day pass ($14.50 each) or just get a card and add some money to it.

You use the same card for both! It looks like you can buy one pre-loaded with either a set value (if you're getting in late or don't plan on doing much via metro the first day, the $8 preload + $2 card would probably be best) or a day pass (if you'll be using it more than say twice that first day), then load the day or weekly passes at the kiosks in the station.

Thank you so much for your advice! This has been so helpful. I guess for those days we will need to do some math to figure out how much we will be on the metro. :D
