(Anonymous) 2015-08-05 05:18 am (UTC)(link)Do you think that concept is generalizable across other criteria and heuristics? Like, it seems to me there's definitely a point where I would start getting uncomfortable with it.

But maybe I'm lenient cause I do similar. Granted not with authors but I'm more likely to read something with a lady protagonist and less likely to read something with a male protagonist
* I had to google this but I like the definitions in wiki article : Where finding an optimal solution is impossible or impractical, heuristic methods can be used to speed up the process of finding a satisfactory solution. Heuristics can be mental shortcuts that ease the cognitive load of making a decision. Examples of this method include using a rule of thumb, an educated guess, an intuitive judgment, stereotyping, profiling, or common sense.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-05 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)My question is, basically, are there any certain heuristics that aren't OK? Because like, I would be kind of leery of someone whose heuristic was not reading black authors, or only reading books by men published before 1950. But the logic seems the same.
