Re: Question about intersectional feminism
(Anonymous) 2015-08-05 12:27 pm (UTC)(link)Saying one black man in gangsta rap looks like a broke criminal is not inherently racist or classist. Saying black men are broke criminals, look at the people in 'their' music! ... is racist.
Anon wasn't saying racism and homophobia are 'inherently tied together always in every instance' but it sure does 'tie into homophobia' at least some of the time. Exactly like racism ties into misogyny, absolutely, in many cases.
Regarding your question about homophobia in Asia, Asia in general is prejudiced as fuck against white people because being gay is considered 'a white people thing.' There are people who legitimately believe there are no gays in Asia who haven't been corrupted by 'Westernization' and it's 'Westerners' who do that kind of thing, not 'us' Asian people. Gay rights and social acceptance are so far behind there, partially because of that exact xenophobic mindset.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-05 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)Not individuals on a personal level, and I wasn't trying to speak for you at all. You aren't big enough. I was talking about a pattern visible in governments and politics.
Are Americans all racist against black people? No but our system and politics and a whole lot of our elected officials sure as fuck significantly are.
