Oh awesome, I'm so glad someone else gets this! Probably a lot of people do, but I've never really been sure.

Yeah, that feeling of vicarious achievement is addicting, isn't it?

God yeah. It's probably the thing I miss most since I left my last fandom, which was het, for my current fandom, which is slash. I do emotionally identify with the male characters and feel things vicariously through them quite strongly. But I never get to that place with them where they feel like an aspirational self that I sort of halfway worship at the same time. And I only ever have one primary fandom at a time, so for the last, oh, three and a half years, I've been missing out on that dynamic, except in little bits and pieces. *sigh*
