I think they're specifically referring to people who say that if they see a fic on AO3 or something that mentions being crossposted on FF, they will refuse to read it

As to the question of whether anyone actually thinks this, or if it's just something trolls say to troll, I have no idea

I don't think people are trolling. This opinion has come up up on FS before in discussions and well, looky here:

Well, the question is whether that post is sincere or not

(Anonymous) 2015-08-09 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure, but do you have a reason to think they're trolling beyond disagreeing with their opinion? Expressing an outrageous or unreasonable opinion is a common trait of trolls, but plenty of people have unreasonable opinions and express them freely and insincerely. The anon who wrote that comment explained their logic, and while I don't agree with it I understand why that works for them. It doesn't seem trollish to me.

The only reason I have is that it seems like such a blatantly unreasonable, obviously wrong, and - frankly - stupid opinion that it's hard to believe they're sincere.

Eh. I mean, I agree that it's dumb, but there are people who think police are justified in killing unarmed people. Preferring AO3 so much that you refuse to read fics posted to FFnet seems pretty tame in comparison.

AYRT - Oh. Well, IMHO that is kind of snobby. Especially as I've seen fics like the example I gave on Ao3 and even LJ, too. ff.n just seems to be a mosh pit of those, and honestly, Ao3 takes a bit of digging for gold as well.
