I have the opposite experience -- I find AO3's fic to be of MUCH higher quality and easier to find.

It is fandom dependent, though. I know for some fandoms (like Death Note) I'd say the best fic is on FFN.

Others, like MCU, is far superior on AO3, IMO.

I would generally assume that FFN is going to be stronger on fandoms that had their heyday before AO3 came around or became prominent. Like Death Note.

Every MCU fic on AO3 is a wall of tag spam and boils down to either Cap and Tony snuggling on a couch, or Bucky and Cap doing the same.

Except, not really

Tag spam is definitely a problem in AO3 but not to nearly that extent. Are you just salty about something, or what?

(Anonymous) 2015-08-09 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I must be getting old, I no longer understand the slang of the day. What does the word "salty" mean in this context?

DA

(Anonymous) 2015-08-09 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
It means "you are being negative/disagreeing with me for shitty reasons/you're being an asshole."

(Anonymous) 2015-08-09 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
'Resentful and bitter'

(Anonymous) 2015-08-10 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
Salty is basically 'bitchy'

*shrug*

I still find it easier than FFN.

Being able to search for "Hurt Steve" tags lets me find the whumpy Steve fics. Or "Hurt Natasha" when I want to see her get some tender love and care.

The FFN has SO MANY AWFUL female OCs too that it's horrible.

AO3 does, but not to that extent and they have the decency to tag it so I can filter out anything with "Reader" for instance.
