Another reason people usually don't like fanfic.net, is because roughly half of it or so are really blatant OC self-insert fics. Which most people don't want to read.

Yeah. ff.net is my last resort for fic, and typically most easily accessible fics (the most popular) are self-inserts (which i'll read if i'm desperate enough, but still).

This really, really depends on the fandom.

Yeah, some of my fandoms have plenty of self-insert/Reader-fics on AO3.
