I can't tell if you mean it has to be a nonhuman that acts nonhuman, or if it can be a nonhuman with a personality that would more or less work in human form (can talk etc despite not looking human at all)

So for the first type, I love Toothless from HTTYD and the biting cat from Azumanga Daioh. For the second, Mogget from the Abhorsen series is my absolute favorite.
