most misunderstood fanfic!

Since today seems to be the day for threads about fanficcing, have you ever posted a fic that nobody 'got'? Something you were very proud of but nobody else appreciated, or something that everybody took in a completely different direction for what you intended?

Mine is a relatively dark installment I wrote for a wingfic 'verse. It got lots of comments - long, detailed, comments - and most everybody hated it.
Part of the difficulty is that it was told from a very tight 3rd person limited, and with all the misunderstandings happening, it kind of looked like it was breaking up a popular ship.
I probably messed up somewhere in the portrayal; I do think that when a lot of people don't 'get' it, it's probably at least partially the author's fault...

Not exactly, but a fic once didn't receive any comments for ages, and then the very first apparently didn't understand the concept of an unreliable narrator and thought that fic told from POV of OFC = Mary Sue author self-insert intended to upstage the canon characters. They left a weird rant about how the OFC was nothing compared to the canon characters and I should apologize for insulting the canon characters.

That was also my very first (and so far only) flame, so it has a special place in my heart.

That's pretty hilarious (I mean, especially since it seems you got away with no real trauma XD).
