As far as I know, the only constant is that (at least) one of the characters has wings.

I could be wrong (I've only read about...three), but I don't think there's any one specific background or back-story. People just like writing about characters with wings.

Wouldn't be surprised if some match it with religion, but I think angel and demon AU's are mostly a different thing?
