I hate sports. I have never gained any satisfaction from watching sports. Combat based sports are the worst. Who can watch two men in shorts hit each other in the head repeatedly and find it entertaining.

So can someone tell me why I have started to become obsessed with women's MMA? Maybe it's just the whole muscular women jumping around getting sweaty, maybe it's a secret desire to see women getting hurt, I don't know. I just feel like a real creep enjoying watching two women doing something that bores me to tears when men do it. Is this ok, or is it as misogynistic as it feels?

I'm a heterosexual male if that makes any difference.

I feel like we've had this exact thread before.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-11 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
op

I dont. could you link me?

(Anonymous) 2015-08-11 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
NAYRT but we have, and I started it, and it's really weird to me that someone started basically the exact same thread, but that's the way the cookie crumbles, sometimes you just get really weird coincidences

(For reference there is one significant difference between OP and me, in that I really like sports in general)

Novelty factor may have a lot to do with it. Or subconscious self-comparison like that person who compared herself to female characters, since women's MMA is a league you'll never be in. Or female MMAers lacking the dumb meathead stereotype that male MMAers carry. Or Ronda Rousey being awesome. I'm in it for the last thing

(Anonymous) 2015-08-11 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Holly Holm is my girl. She could take Rousey apart.

IDK, there doesn't always have to be a reason for liking something. Sometimes you just like something and you can't explain why, because there isn't any reason that can be articulated with words. And that's okay. Normal, even.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-11 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey, I'm JUST like you, except I'm a lesbian. Sports bore me to tears. And actually, watching men's MMA fighting and such just is a massive turn-off for me, mainly because I don't like to see brutal violence applauded... but..

yeah, I do MMA myself.

I should say it's UFC stuff I don't like, mostly. I really like martial arts, and I really like feeling like I'm improving myself and getting stronger. I like proper, respectful martial arts matches. Just not the UFC type stuff.

(but I'll watch women's stuff any day, idk why)

(Anonymous) 2015-08-11 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Gross. Just gross.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-11 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Just out of curiosity, do you mind saying specifically why it's gross

(Anonymous) 2015-08-11 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
It could be innocent, sure, but there's also a good chance that it's something dark showing through from your subconscious, you need to work on yourself and make sure that anything like that is under control.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-11 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Why is it a good chance? Sounds like a very slim chance to me. 99% of the time, if some has a legit problem like this, they'd vociferously deny it rather than wonder if there's someone wrong with them.

My fiancé prefers women's basketball because he states the competition is more interesting and the women often show more skill and athleticism than the men. (Who he claim just run back and forth and dunk the ball.) Maybe it's a little of that. I know in wrestling the women often demonstrate more visually impressive and athletic moves than the men, who, if they are touted as a beast or strongman, just throw people around.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-11 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
My dad's the same way.

I don't like women's basketball personally but I'm a big fan of women's soccer and women's cricket.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-11 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
it seems creepy but i cant place why

(Anonymous) 2015-08-11 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Can you elaborate? Just out of curiosity.

Probably because it's not creepy, you're just an ass who can't differentiate between "guys can be gross" from "this one guy is gross."

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2015-08-12 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, kink is kink. You don't have to feel bad about it if you're not doing anything that violates consent or causing lasting harm to people.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-12 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Whaaaaaaaaaaaat about OP's original question made you jump to the conclusion that this is a kink?

Instead of having a secret desire to see women *get* hurt, maybe you have a secret desire to see women doing the hurting. Maybe a part of you wishes they would unleash that strength, incredible discipline and focus, and aggressive energy on you.

Yeah, this rings true!

[personal profile] chardmonster 2015-08-12 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
I got really into basketball recently because I have always wanted to get thrown through a hoop slightly wider than me

If you feel misogynistic watching it, then maybe it is misogynistic for you.

I had a friend who was a female boxer, and I tend to think of women's sports as glorifying women, but I don't watch MMA at all, so I can't tell if that sense of glorification works in that sport.

IMPORTANT GUIDELINES

[personal profile] chardmonster 2015-08-12 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
The most correct way to be attracted to women is to never openly admit being attracted to women unless you can express that in wholly intellectual terms.

GOOFUS SAYS: She looks really good when engaging in physical activities! I like to watch!

GALLANT SAYS: She really understands the discourse! If she called me out I would totally listen in silence.

Now if you weren't a heterosexual male, you'd be allowed to obsess openly about her physicality but only from the collarbones up. Jawlines are the boobs of 2015.
