NAYRT but it really does bother me how frequently people (on here and elsewhere) use these kind of cliched phrases to completely dismiss ideas without even considering them

It's like you don't even have to think about what someone says, you just have to look at it until you can jam it into a slot and then say one of the magic words. "You're Not Like The Other Girls!" "But What About The Menz." It's really stupid.

NA But that is a common thing fangirls/geeks do when dismissing other women and apologising to guys about them? I'm just different, I'm SO embarrassed by my gender, the sexists were right about them just not me!

I'm not denying that it exists, but it bothers me the dismissive and incredibly reductive way that it's used, and the way that it's used to just completely close off entire lines of thought, no matter how sincerely or reflectively expressed

(And also, in passing, I don't think there's any way that you can characterize an anonymous post on fandomsecrets as 'apologizing to guys about other women', given the demographics of this comm)

Look, you just think what other fangirls like is bad for some completely subjective reason, such as... you just don't like it. So I used Not Like Other Girls because you were acting like your opinion and fanboys' opinions are just better and that's a fact, just like it's assumed to be a fact that anything girls like (and girls themselves) are inferior.

Completely new anon

They included themself by using an "us", so it's doubtful they're saying they're not like other girls. Additionally, you can't seem to understand that the issue is with your wording which will usually either completely shut down the conversation or reduce it to petty insults rather the sentiment expressed.

NAYRT "They included themself by using an "us", so it's doubtful they're saying they're not like other girls."
Or they could mean us as in "I'm a girl too."

NAYRT, OP of this thread

You are having a conversation with imaginary people who aren't here. Nobody in this thread, especially me, has said any of the shit you're attempting to respond to. Stop embarrassing yourself.

Re: original ayrt

(Anonymous) 2015-08-13 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
(A) I'm not actually OP (as I specifically said). More than one person is capable of disagreeing with you.

(B) You're responding to a bunch of shit that neither I nor the OP ever said. That's why your response was bad, and that's the general problem I have with that kind of response: because people just use them as immediate answers without actually considering what the person is saying. It's, in fact, a perfect example of the problem with shit like this.

Sometimes I understand why fanboys are afraid of us getting into things they like. Sounds like apologizing to guys about other women to me.

Actually, if you tried to read properly, she a)didn't apologise to anyone and b)included herself in the sentence ("us") so either you need to practise some basic reading comprehension or get your persecution complex checked (or both).

Oh dear, we had different interpretations, is that condescending enough back in return?

We don't have different interpretations, you are purposely interpreting it wrong to prove your point.

I can't even with you, I'm laughing irl at how you phrased this

That's nice deary. Doesn't make it wrong, though.

Or, alternatively, "I think our subculture has a bad habit and since it gets on my nerves, I'm not surprised it gets on other people's"?

But that would be engaging with an idea, which I guess isn't really your thing.
