I love this song so much that I’m afraid to listen to anything else by Dawes or learn more about the band. I don’t want to have this song ruined by finding out that their other stuff sucks or they’re Officially Disapproved Of for some reason.
S!B I’m aware this is insane, but I’m scared that even posting this secret, someone in comments will say something like “Oh yeah, I heard about them, they’re big Ron Paul supporters.” or “Didn’t they get sued by their roadies for labor abuse?” and boom, there goes something else I started to let myself like.

Well, I don't know anything about the band except that they were a meme on the AV Club for some reason I never deciphered, BUT you'll probably like their other music. They are very solid. I have their "Stories Don't End" and "Nothing is Wrong" albums and there are some very excellent songs on both. I particularly like "From a Window Seat," "From the Right Angle," "If I Wanted Someone," and "Just Beneath the Surface."

Listen to them, OP, and tell me what you think. If it's any help, their music, at least on those two albums, sounds similar to the song in secret, so their sound doesn't seem to change much.

Also, they have a very similar sound to the Avett Bros. Do you like them?

Back before the AV Club started pushing bands heavily in Newswire, one of the writers made a Newswire all about Dawes, a band no one had ever heard of. It seemed weirdly fawning and sort of out of character, so it became a meme. Now they do that more and more often, but the Dawes thing came out of nowhere, so.

Don't think I've heard of them before, but even if one of them had done/said something questionable it wouldn't make you an awful person for liking a song or two.

I could see where you're coming from if something super serious and depraved came to light and you were supporting the band, but I doubt that's likely.

Just listen to the music and enjoy yourself?
