My firm headcanon is that AT LEAST DURING CANON EVENTS, Aziraphale and Crowley looked more or less ambiguously white.

I believe this is canon when I’m not feeling so generous (AUs are not bad!). This is because of the nature of the story, and even if I disregard that, how Shadwell interacts with them.

I’m not committed to any headcanon about their human forms after their past or future discorporations.

So whenever I see well-meaning artists make them unambiguously not white in an unspecified time period, I think “Whatever, but this cannot be Notpocalypse era for me.”

Other characters? I don’t see them often enough to complain about how they’re presented.

I have never lived in the UK and am not white by any definition. Make of that what you will.

I don't think it's racist to think of them as white.

Certainly, the archetypes that each character is evoking in human existence are ones that are deeply associated with whiteness, so.

You know the Notpocalypse era is the late 80s in the UK, right? Not exactly the whitest time in the UK's history. I mean yeah, they probably are white, but it's not a strong enough reason to reject non-white headcanons.

I'm not the OP, but I agree with them, and for me part of the reason why isn't the time period, it's how people treat them, like, the way that Shadwell treats them. I find it hard to believe he wouldn't have treated them differently if they were supposed to be POC.

But unless they're supposed to be pretending to be immigrants or kids of immigrants (and there's nothing to suggest they were) why wouldn't they be white? Just to fit in with the number of immigrants there?

Sure it is. It'd be a different story if they were going around telling ficcers or fanartists that their interpretations are wrong wrongitty wrong, but mentally filing something as AU/a different era because it clashes with their own headcanon is absolutely reasonable.

I... kind of agree? Not because of the relative white/not-whiteness of the UK at the time, but because of Shadwell, like you mentioned.
