I'm liking this art! And you've made the film sound like lots of fun. Should probably watch it; sounds like something I'd enjoy. (Will probably not...I'm bad at getting around to things, but seriously, not every character needs to have a tragic back-story, some people just like causing havoc.)

It's actually a 13-episode TV series. I may not be the OP, but I agree with him/her. Fujiko is one of those characters I always wanted to see more of in "Lupin III" because she's so unrepentantly badass and sexy, and "The Woman Called Fujiko Mine" delivers, in my opinion.

13 episodes is like the perfect length! Okay, it's kind of short, but as long as every episode uses its time wisely it works.

I don't remember much about Lupin III to be honest, but all these secrets and mentions lately have made me think I should go back to it. That is exactly the kind of character I want to see more of.

The art/animation is superb. At least watch the first episode? For me? Pretty please with a cherry on top?

I see that the first two episodes are on youtube (maybe more, even?) so I'm going to try to watch them (not right this second, but later!).

(Not that I have an account and the site is asking me to log in, so I'm going to try to find my way around it, lol.)

I did watch the trailer though, and the art was indeed stunning, not to mention sexy as hell! If the actual series is anything like the trailer then I can definitely see the appeal because it looks/sounds (dat voice, unf)/seems intriguing. (It felt very Catwoman: When in Rome.)

I loved her voice both in the original and the dub. Not sure which I prefer really, but they both suit her.

The dub was the one I found, but I think her VA is the same as the dub from the older series? At least it sounds familiar to me! I liked it a lot and see why they gave Fujiko her own series! (She's a smart, sexy woman who is just as competent as Lupin, maybe even more so.) I'll try to finish it up, though idk if it'll be today. Oh, how I hope all of them are on YouTube...

Btw, is she bi? I thought I saw her kissing a woman in the trailer... I didn't remember her being bisexual, but I would be down with that. So down with that.

Thanks for mentioning it! Out of curiosity, were you the OP of the Utena secrets? You don't have to say, but I was planning on trying that after watching this. I'm glad there's been more anime secrets lately... Makes me realize how much I miss it.

I've only ever watched the older series with the original Japanese dub, so I can't say if she's played Fujiko before. You probably recognize the VA from other anime? She's played many famous anime characters in the past. I'm glad you're enjoying the series!

I assume she's bi? She likes men but doesn't mind getting down with girls either. So that's a yes, I think.

I've made 1 Utena secret (not the incest one lol). I have mixed feelings about the series as a whole (I'm definitely a fan of shorter series, anything longer than 20+ episodes annoys me), but I enjoyed it. I hope you do, too, if you get around to watching it. It definitely leaves its mark on you.

I doubt you're still checking this thread, but I watched to episode 5! I am liking it, even more than expected. However, I didn't realize Lupin was going to annoy me so much, lol. (Maybe I couldn't see what such a dick he could be at that age?) And some of the other characters reactions to Fujiko make me want to punch them as well... Fujiko is too good for this shit. I was glad to see Jigen and Goemon again, though! Those two I still adore as much as ever.

The ending of this series is sorely underappreciated. Possibly the only deliberate example of narrative substitution I have seen in anime. It may be overambitious, but bless its heart for actually trying.

Although I'm not sure what narrative substitution means? Like I understand what the words mean, but what is it? I tried googling but couldn't find anything cohesive. /dumb

Yeah it's not actually a concept I knew any kind of name for until much later when reading TARDIS Eruditorum. Basically all it means is that you set up your audience to expect one kind of story - then, with a twist, you reveal that it was another kind of story all along; EXCEPT in doing you simultaneously critique and expose the problems/etc with the one the audience was expecting.
You put it better when you described it as 'A fuck you'. The whole series set people up to expect a terribly trite treatment of Fujiko and 'femme fatale'dom in general, then pulled the rug and practically chastised us for not seeing it coming.

I think I know one other anime that did this... In Samurai Flamenco (slight spoilers ahoy!) the main character is a gentle and kind-hearted person who ends up going through a lot of terrible things. The bad guy wants him to become a Batman-like character, where he would angst about his past and use that to fuel his anger, because that would make him "more interesting". This was sort of echoing what a lot of fans/viewers wanted; a darker version of the main character. So the main character basically makes this huge speech why this idea sucks and it wouldn't work, because the main character wants to be a happy, loving person. (Basically, he wants to be Sailor Moon instead of Batman.) And shame on you (the viewers) if you wanted someone edgier at the expense of his personal well-being.

Sorry for the tl;dr!

YES I fucking love Samurai Flamenco and that ending. Damn OP, high five for your tastes.

I love Fujiko but I hated this show. :/ The characters were even more unlikable than the Green Jacket versions, and I thought the art was sloppy and hard to make out.

It's sad because so few specials/episodes focus on Fujiko. The Columbus Files special was even worse.
