On secret one someone mentioned how Lupita Nyong'o is the female Idris Elba. Basically, anytime a role calls for a black female character people say CAST LUPITA!

Or, whenever a rugged yet freindly looking, slightly charming and sarcastic white male character needs to be cast, people yell Nathan Fillion!!!!!

Who are some of your fav actors who get this? They don't have to be the current "That Role" person. It can be someone from back in the day (like who was THAT guy before Idris Elba?)

Karen Gillan - any female redhead.
Lucy Liu - any Asian girl.
Amandla Stenberg - any young black girl.

Oh man, Lucy Liu. She is fancast into everything Asian.

nayrt - I know. I love her and all, but it's painfully obvious when people only know ONE Chinese actress...

Personally, Freema Agyeman was "That Role" person for me way back.
Which actually resurfaced when I saw someone else fancast her as Ahsoka/Fulcrum.

Lucy Liu and Gina Torres. I love them, but unfortunately so does the portion of fandom that'll say anything for SJW brownie points.

I'm also fond of Idris Elba, though admittedly I've only seen him in Pacific Rim and the Thor films.

I love Idris Elba, but I think some of his THAT guy-ness on the internet comes from people being too lazy to look up how to spell Chiwetel Ejiofor's name and thinking that Denzel Washington is "like, totally old now."

Don't get me wrong (as the initial anon bitching about Lupita being the new Idris). Idris is a fantastic actor who's been great in many things. But he's not the ideal choice for every single black male role. He's just not.

Michelle Rodriguez the Action Girl

How many actresses are there with an actual action girl build, though? Michelle Rodriguez is fairly unique in that regard.

She isn't built all that different? most actresses would be able to put on that amount of muscle with a trainer. her whole tough thing comes from her stoic and/or resting bitch face.

Maybe. I've rarely seen movies where actresses actually put on that much muscle, and I don't think everyone can. For example< Gail Gadot as Wonder Woman makes no sense because her frame in no way is capable of putting on that much muscle (and it seems they only slightly even tried).

Yes, I guess there are other actresses who could put on that much muscle, but they don't. And I personally like her stoic thing because she fills many of the stereotypical male roles. I like it when a woman on screen is unemotional because I'm unemotional too, and every time you have a main action heroine being emotional is almost always a way the filmmakers show that she's female (along with dressing sexy).

Gina Carano.

I'd never heard of her. I just googled, and she should be in more things (assuming she can act). She'd totally be an awesome action heroine.

Who thinks Nathan Fillion still looks rugged? WHO? Aside, perhaps, Nathan Fillion.

Oh, Patrick Stewart fancast for bald characters, one of which he actually played in several movies.
