This canon, but written by someone else

(Anonymous) 2015-08-15 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
I was thinking about something like this earlier today and I thought it would make interesting conversation. What if a bunch of different writers were given the challenge of writing a certain canon their way with the rules being that they had to have certain canon things happen, but with relative free reign on how.

Who would you like to imagine write what and how do you think they would write it? What would be better and what would be not as good?

Imagine The Godfather, but directed by Michael Bay.

Since they overlapped, I often think about what would've happened had JKR written Buffy, and Joss Whedon written Harry Potter.

I never get far, but I do note how both series had trios, for starters. And quiet werewolves.

That sounds interesting!

I would kind of love to see Whedon's Potter. His worldbuilding tends to be a lot tighter and more consistent than JKR's.

That would be very interesting I think. It might also be less British and more American, while JKR's Buffy would be more British.

Given how much Maggie Stiefvater cites her as an inspiration, the Diana Wynne Jones take on the Raven Cycle would be interesting (probably less romantic in all areas, not just Ronan/Adam, but god, she would have gotten SO into the Welsh mythology)

I'd read ASoIAF and/or watch GoT if written by a comic fantasy author.

Doctor Who written by pre-AOS Trek writers might be interesting, but I don't have any clear ideas about it.
