IA, i'm so goddamn sick of the samey BS.

it used to be all "Chosen One" Tolkien ripoffs and now it's all grimdark antihero Martin ripoffs

the demographic is seriously starting to remind me of comic book readers or people into Warhammer. and not in a good way. just the worst of bitter nerd guys who long to be badass and never will be.

yeeeeesssss. I don't hate fantasy as a genre or anything, just bored by how uncreative and id-y so much stuff is when, like, it's fantasy, you can write about ANYTHING!

If you don't want Chosen One and/or Martin-esque fiction, try picking up the stuff that doesn't have dragons or burly dudes with swords on the covers once in a while.

Fantasy is an incredibly broad genre. If you can't find anything outside of those two niches, you aren't really looking.

The darkest fantasy book I have ever read is nothing like Martin's crap. His stuff is really juvenile, wishful fulfillment crap.

I actually enjoy Martin's books in a popcorn flick kind of way, but yeah, they're not so much dark as violent. Most of the usual swords and sorcerors and kings tropes are still there.
