Mysteries you reread/rewatch frequently

(Anonymous) 2015-08-17 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Does anyone have a favorite mystery that they always return to? Something that, even if you know the whodunnit, you love to reread or rewatch?

I've currently got the final episode of State of Play on; I've watched the series at least 10 times, and I actually watched this episode last night but my DVD player autoplayed it when I turned it on and I just said "Oh well." I know who did it, I could quote the murderer's confession by heart, but I'll always rewatch it.

(Also, John Simm and Kelly MadDonald's chemistry, omg, they need to work together more)

Rex Stout mysteries. Raymond Chandler mysteries. Sherlock Holmes stories.

Because, in all 3 cases, it's not really about who did it.

Yes! The Doorbell Rang. I laugh out loud each and every time.

Poirot. I can never get enough of them, both books and the Suchet version. Also And Then There Were None (the book version, not the film version that ruined the ending). I just really love me some Christie, though I'm not a huge Marple fan.

This, I love Poirot too and own many of the Suchet DVDs. I watch them again and again because they're fun and the attention to detail regarding the costumes, cars, historic details, etc., is so good.

I feel the same about Jeremy Brett's Sherlock Holmes.

I grew up on them because my parents were big Poirot fans. I now own the entire set myself.

I've never really been a Sherlock fan. I've never found a version I like. Never seen the Brett version, though, so maybe I'll check it out. Everything I've seen is a "modern" version or different from the books, so maybe something more faithful I'll actually like.

Jeremy Brett is the best homes. He and Watson have great chemistry, and just as with Poirot it's never just about the mysteries. :)

Sherlock Holmes stories, of course, and the Granada adaptation with Jeremy Brett.
