Hoooh? I might need to check this out now!

I watched the show when I was young, but I rewatched a lot of it as an adult, some of the episodes that scared me the most were ones I'd never seen as a kid or that were scarier to me now than I remembered. The Lonely Ghost comes to mind. I remembered that episode as being kind of boring, but how wrong I was.

Ahaha, AYAOTD-- I loved that show as a kid, I love it now and it still creeps the hell out of me, all these years later. XD The opening gives me chills to this day and it's my favorite go-to creepy story show, and I /hate/ creepy stories. Good memories!

I haven't watched episodes in AGES, but I remember hiding my face behind a blanket during the scary bits of the show.

Hell, I grew up on this show and that one kid in the mirror episode still gets me.

I remember that episode, so I Googled out of nostalgia.

Wow, that's a lot creepier than I remember! The episodes are up on Youtube, you say? I might have to go take a look.

You know what I find even scarier? That Ghastly Grinner episode has a 8.6 rating on imdb. Why? I mean, in terms of quality, that puts it in the same category as Whiplash (2014), Community, American History X, and Parks and Recreation.

I'm assuming it's because it's one of those things that has a small following where anyone who isn't into it isn't even going to bother going on the imdb page to rate it. Those who like it mostly do because it's one of those silly things from childhood that has that "Hey, remember that?" novelty now, even if it doesn't hold up so well otherwise.

Don't be ashamed, some episodes still freak me out. Others that scared me as a kid don't as an adult, but some scare me on COMPLETELY different levels.

Like the one with the fire ghost? Freaked me out as a kid because it totally got me on the superstition/silly scary stories kids tell level. As an adult I'm like "whoa that's slightly unsettling but otherwise nah". And the pool one TERRIFIED ME as a young swimmer.

Now, the ones that get me the most are like, the radio station and the one where they had a VGA plug in your hand and you get sucked into the computer (or was it a virus?? I can't remember)

This secret made me go on a nostalgic AYAOTD marathon on Youtube earlier tonight, and the pool episode was one of the ones I watched. Most of the other episodes were pretty silly (ok, maybe that one was too), but what kind of surprised me was the fact that the little kid at the beginning drowned. I mean, people are pretty uptight about child death in any media, let alone a kid's show. When it cut away after it showed him in the pool, I thought "Since this is for kids, I assume he made it out..." but nope, when that guy was talking about it later in the episode he actually confirmed that the kid drowned.

Also, there was that episode about that actress who steals women's faces, which I never saw as a kid but seeing it now makes me think that was probably for the better. I read about it first and expected the women who had their faces stolen would have some sort of cheesy looking skin-colored sock thing over their faces to make them appear "faceless", but the sort of semi-faceless makeup thing they did instead with the blank eyes, featureless noses, and lipless mouths was just downright disturbing.

Although I do have to say, nothing on the show could possibly be as disturbing as the fact that any of the "actors" actually passed their auditions and made it onto TV.

I remember that face stealing ep. I saw it for the first time as an adult too, and I was surprised at how truly creepy it was.

The faceless episode is one of the few media pieces that has ever disturbed me. I can't watch a certain episode of Doctor Who because of the association. People laugh, but no thanks. My kids are getting into it now and I'm all "Yes, enjoy it! But I'm leaving the room before people lose their faces."

And some of Canada's prettiest actors were on that!
