It's not coincidence, because X was the first one to ever have voice acting and part of that first wave of voice acted RPGs. Xenosaga from yesterday was one and Tales of Symphonia was another. Grandia II was also around the same time, iirc, and you can reaally tell with that one, as much as I love evil Ariel.

FFX was okay for what it was at the time. The Japanese was also around the same quality, honestly. It was more of a surprise since those actors have done work before, but going back and listening to both makes how early it was pretty obvious.
