Putting this here. If you think the pengo thing is people's only issue with pk, you're sadly mistaken.

Also a lot of people who've been around them even up leaving suddenly. Not just the ones who get paragraph long callout posts. See crayon-chewer and iveechan in the pmd-e group. Iveechan even reblogged pengo's rebuttal.

Exactly! Honestly, this is actually kind of how I feel about a lot of non-canon pairings, though usually I'm just like "well, it's not quite as interesting as gen, but if a shipping fic is compelling and in-character I'll still enjoy the hell out of reading it."

But with the X-Files, the "OMG SO NOT THE POINT OF THE SHOW/CHARACTERS/RELATIONSHIP" factor was completely off the charts, and that combined with the fandom/later canon made me actively anti-ship it.

I think it's about how the discussion is, and how mature they can have it. I'm not saying "pull the phobia card" but they should be able to have an adult conversation without someone freaking out about it. If the scenario can only end in drama, that means the relationship is not a very mature or healthy one, tbh, and they should have a talk about more than just the tattoo.

My thing is when it's a foreign property, and I am referring specifically to anime, and they make merchandise they refuse to sell to people outside of the country.

If the tattoos actually matter to OP and to OP's GF as much as OP says, then yes.
