AYRT

Exactly. I torrented the first two seasons of Eureka and then just went ahead and bought the whole series because I liked them. The show didn't air in my country anymore by the time I got interested in it.

Torrents and streaming sites are the reason I own so many unopened DVDs and blu-rays, lol. If I like it I buy it, but I don't buy it without knowing whether or not I like it.

I torrented the original Thief all the way back in 2004. Thief didn't exist outside of a few copies floating around on eBay at the time. I think I actually still have the ISO, even -- because even after I managed to track down a copy, I used my ISO to preserve the disk. Did the same thing with Thief 2 and my $80 copy of System Shock 2 (it goes double for SS2 because the way SS2's copy protection worked it purposely used bad sectors on the disk, and the grinding noise made my balls recede into my lungs.)

Of course, all three games came out on gog.com a few years back, so I just use my gog account :)

The only game I ever torrented was Sims 2 and the whole process was so complicated it put me off torrenting games forever, lol.

Now I have a Steam account and just wait for sales. Considering I bought most of my games for about five bucks I don't imagine there was much left for creative team behind the games.

Speaking of Steam, can't you load games you own on disk load onto your account so you can play them without the actual disk? Is there anything preventing you from getting a game from a friend and loading it to your account?

NGL I had to learn how to torrent and how to install from ISOs and all that, but it was worth it.

Anyway as regards to your question: The short answer is no. The long answer is no, with some exceptions. There is a very short list of games (almost all of them Valve-produced and predating Steam) that let you put in the CD key off the manual or the jewel case into Steam to attach those games to your account.

Most of the time the "redeem key" option on the main Steam menu is for when you buy a key from a reseller, get a Steam-enabled game in a Humble Bundle, or if you buy a physical copy of the game that's literally just an install disk (if that) and a piece of paper with a key on it.
