The way BL fandom fawns over Handsome Jack to me is a perfect example of what's wrong with the 'Draco in Leather Pants' trope. It's one thing when the villain has some redeeming qualities, but there just isn't anything good about Jack. Even aside from his obviously evil deeds like abusing and exploiting his daughter, making a point of murdering peoples' friends and loved ones in front of them, and cartoonish levels of abuse for his own employees, he's a charismatic, arrogant sociopath who only does things to benefit himself and his ego. And I've met too many people like that in the real world to ever understand his popularity. People like him destroy lives. Stop idolizing that shit. It's not cute, it's not funny. It's evil, and you're stupid.

Glad to see I used to hang around people mature enough to like him but also realize he was a piece of shit. (Tho tbh I have no idea what the fandom's like now, dropped out of the fandom a bit before TPS came out, and that game sure didn't get me back into it.)

He was a good villain, because I have never hated one as much as him. That's where my appreciation for him ends though, and I cannot comprehend the woobification I've seen. I haven't played tps either, or tales, but yeah, from what I've seen he's still a douche in them.

I like him in the sense that he's an absolute shitbag, but he's an awful person who deserves every bad thing he gets. But idk what the BL2 fandom is like about him so I don't get overexposed to any woobiness or whatever.

I've been watching the fandom from the sidelines since BL2 came out, and I've played TPS as well. This is exactly what continues to aggravate me because I see people defending him just about every single day, and it got 50 times worse after TPS came out with a whole new load of Jack fanboys/girls. He is so completely woobified after events in TPS and people can keep a straight face when they say that it's not his fault that he became the way he is (don't want to give any TPS spoilers), like they forgot everything that they learned about him in BL2. Someone once said on Reddit that the way the fanboys/girls see Jack is exactly why dictators are still in power, and I think I agree.
