Assumptions on gender and sexuality

(Anonymous) 2015-08-21 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
GDI world, just because Ellen, Rachel Maddow and Tig Notaro are some of my style icons and personal heroes, it doesn't mean I'm gay or some manner of genderqueer.

I never thought I'd miss tbe days when I was just thought of as a "tomboy" (requisite "I hate that word" here).

Fuck 'em.

Easy to say, harder to do. Feeling really worn down.

Re: Assumptions on gender and sexuality

(Anonymous) 2015-08-21 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
:( I'm sorry. It does suck. But there's not really a whole lot else you can do, except tell people who make dumb assumptions to go to hell because they're being idiots.

Hugs if wanted.

People seem somewhat more willing to believe that a lesbian can be feminine and a gay man can be masculine, than they are likely to believe the reverse, that a masculine woman or a feminine man can be straight.

Hell with 'em. You do you.

Ooooooh poor you. Try being someone who gets beaten (sometimes to death) because they don't have the luxury of being "just a tomboy."

Not OP

(Anonymous) 2015-08-21 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
You can get beaten to death because of false assumptions.

Shut the fuck up.

Re: Assumptions on gender and sexuality

(Anonymous) 2015-08-21 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
If you ship the het ship involving a popular character when a plausible slash ship exists for them as well, you are straight. Period.

lol

Re: Assumptions on gender and sexuality

(Anonymous) 2015-08-21 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
wut

I'm the straightest person to ever straight and I love the hell out of slash. Two dicks? It's like a two for one special.

Re: Assumptions on gender and sexuality

(Anonymous) 2015-08-21 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
No, you're good, the logic doesn't apply the other way. It's normal for straight people to like slash more than het, but non-straight people never prefer a het ship over slash!

Fuck that shit, Batman/Superman is okay but nothing beats Lois/Superman. That is my opinion, and anyone who wants to revoke my Homosexual Card can fight me for it.

How did shipping works its way into OP's comment????

It's an assumption about sexuality, like the thread title advertised to be posted here...

Or was OP just posting to vent? Oh well.

Re: Assumptions on gender and sexuality

I know how you feel. I frequently get mistaken for a lesbian (not sure why to be honest).

And it wouldn't bother me but…it's usually guys who assume that, which is a little frustrating.

That and I'm so heterosexual it hurts. I'd rather sleep with the world's ugliest man than the world's most beautiful woman.

:( For what it's worth I think Ellen and Maddow are both stylish as fuck. (Also cute as fuck, but that doesn't help, sorry.)

Idk what to say other than you should wear what you like and are comfortable in, but I'm sorry that's happened to you; people shouldn't jump to conclusions.

I love flannel and jeans and won't stop wearing them for any reason, tbh. (There are constant jokes about flannel and lesbians online, though I don't hear it IRL.) I like skirts and blouses too but I'm not wearing them all the time.

Re: Assumptions on gender and sexuality

(Anonymous) 2015-08-22 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Well, that should stop soon. Flannel was popular in the 90s and 90s stuff is popular now. You'll just be fashionable.

Huh, it is? I don't keep up with fashion much. (I'm trying to remember what was popular in the 90's...arpund that time I was wearing some questionable shit, but I was young, so. Flannel is awesome though, so I'm always glad to see people embracing it.)

Re: Assumptions on gender and sexuality

(Anonymous) 2015-08-22 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah.

(Actually, I'm a straight guy who's really into the Ellen aesthetic, so...yeah, I sympathize.)

Re: Assumptions on gender and sexuality

(Anonymous) 2015-08-22 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
idk that seems to indicate people are at least thinking of other sexualities as a possibility to make assumptions about seems better than the temporary uncomfortablity of being mistaken for a lesbian
