Ugh. I love both pairings (TamaHaru and HikaHaru), but I can't say Tamaki's faultless. He cares for her but an idealization of who she is, a perfect shoujo heroine. So he isn't really in love with the real Haruhi. Hikaru is being a typical boy, as contrast.

I think, out of the Host Club, the only more mature emotionally to love her in a serious relationship at their age is Kaoru (he comes out as the one with less emotional issues, able to see Haruhi as herself and is quite selfless). I don't ship her with Kaoru, mind you, just an observation.

Aww. Thank you. I thank you, like I say, I LOVE both pairings but LMAO, neither of them are exactly perfect and able to hold a lasting relationship:

Tamaki loves Haruhi, yes, but he is a bit out of touch with reality (which is what I love of him), including of how Haruhi really is most of the time. He can figure out most people, but her. Probably because he's so wrapped out in his role of perfect prince and thinks a fairytale princess could only suit him, and can't accept Haruhi is that woman for doesn't fit the ideal, so she's someone he has to "raise" (wtf).

Hikaru, unlike Tamaki, does know and loves Haruhi as her own person, but he's got possessiveness issues from his childhood. He's not used to open up and when he attaches to someone, he's naturally demands all attention to himself. Since Haruhi doesn't do that, he gets jealous and bratty. He's used to that thanks to his relationship with Kaoru.

Both have flaws that make the pairings interesting to me (I mean, Kaoru/Haruhi would be, IMO, the BEST outcome and more realistic, but would be boring and too perfect to me. Of course! Nothing against the shippers). Whatever floats your boat of your preferences. ;P

Mhm, I'm not saying Tamaki is absolutely perfect (far from it, really), I just don't like Hikaru as a character, and his relationship with Haruhi is rather unhealthy (mind you, so is Tamaki's, unless he gets a wake up call ASAP).

I prefer Kaoru out of the two twins (and you're probably going to make me start shipping Haruhi/Kaoru now, damnit), and your comments are quite true. Poor, overlooked Kaoru. :(

Both relationships are rather unhealthy. That's obvious, and also from Haruhi's part who is no saint herself. XD That's what I like of both pairings, there's obstacles to surpass.

Oh, I rabu Kaoru and I totally see Kaoru/Haruhi would have only one significant obstacle (which is big, aside of Haruhi's lack of feelings and possible Kaoru's): Hikaru.

That to say... I am to believe ANY definitive pairing would screw the Host dynamics and break it. That's why I'm leery to see anything happen. Kaoru has right to be wary of this.

And Tamaki isn't immature? Besides, Hikaru has developed a lot since that date with Haruhi. He CAN be mature (even moreso than Kaoru when it comes down to it - see the end of the twins arc when he confronts him about the importance of being twins. I would get the chapter reference but I'm a bit rushed for time, sorry) and he CAN think of others. Yes, he does get jealous, but he IS actually trying desperately to keep that under control (the bank thing) and I don't think that it makes him any less "deserving" of Haruhi, anyway. Imo, nobody "deserves" anyone any more than anybody else. They're just in love with who they're in love with, regardless of any faults or flaws in that person.

And, w-wait, "genuinely cares for her"? So, you're implying that Hikaru doesn't GENUINELY care for Haruhi because of.. what.. the way he goes about it? :/

..I realise I'm fighting a losing battle here, though, because she will probably end up with Tamaki, anyway. ._.

I would try to make a decent rebuttal, but I haven't watched the Ouran anime in yonks and I have no idea about the references you are making as I haven't read the manga, so let's just say you win, I was wrong, your points are valid, mine suck, I fail, etc.

Because I really don't want this developing into a 50 comment long heated debate about which fictional character is going to end up with the other.
I just don't have the energy or drive.

Ah, sorry, sorry. I just automatically assumed you'd read the manga, since I think the latest chapters were what the OP was referring to when they talked about wanting Hikaru to have a "fighting chance". But if you haven't read it, I suggest you don't. Dx Honestly, it was the manga that actually made me greatly dislike TamaHaru and ship HikaHaru hardcore. I liked TamaHaru in the anime.

Awesome, I don't want a long heated debate about pairings either. Just adding my two cents. :]

Haha, no I actually don't really like the manga. DDDX Now I definitely don't want to read it; I knew there was something bad when I first tried! But yeah, the anime made me ship TamaHaru. Hikaru's probably a lot nicer/likable in the manga; in the anime he's a bit of a twat. =/

Sorry if I came across bitchy or anything. And yeah, long debates about pairings = fail. XDDD
