I'm not sure what to believe. Enlighten me. Why are there so many girls in high school walking around pregnant? Why are kids in middle school getting knocked up in public bathrooms?

It's not simply 'she's pregnant, that slut'. I honestly do not understand what is going through young peoples' minds (yes, people; I'm not putting any more 'blame' on the girl than the guy) when they're having sex so young, or so easily.

I'll admit, I hold a grudge against more than one person concerning this topic. What they did was stupid. I also believe people mistake too many things for love too often. In the end, I'm just disgusted by how sexually active kids are today, and am tired of it being just as easily accepted by their peers.

I'd rather the media stop making sex look so enticing while hypocritically telling them 'no'.

lots of teal deer ahead!

You have some valid points and I'll address them as best I can. I've tried to keep this as brief as possible but, well, as you can see it got a little long. Hope it's all clear.

Our society is incredibly messed up when it comes to sex. There are so many mixed and disturbing messages sent to people, kids and adults alike. Girls and women are taught the only worthwhile thing about them is their bodies. They have to be sexually desirable or else no man will want them. At the same time, they're not to be sexually available because that makes them a slut. Women's sexuality is used to sell everything. Our bodies are merely a commodity. I don't think that sex is a bad thing but the messages we send out about it are.

Sex ed in far too many places consists of "don't do it till you're married". People don't talk frankly about sex and treat it like it's something dirty and shameful rather than a part of life. Teenagers are going to have sexual urges. It's part of human biology. They need to be taught how to be smart about sex - when to say yes, when to say no, how to protect themselves from disease and unwanted pregnancy, and that you can have sex *without* penetration (use your hands, teens! Everyone gets off, no one gets pregnant or a disease). On top of that, it's a constant battle to get birth control and safe abortions for women.

But if you try to teach kids the facts, people start screaming about how you're putting ideas in their heads, which is absolutely ridiculous because they have those ideas anyway.

I have a huge problem with "the kids are stupid, why are they having sex" mindset. Kids copy the behaviour of the adults around them. Girls are also punished far more harshly for the consequences of unprotected sex than boys. And remember that poverty is also an issue - those with less money have less access to information and are more likely to be trapped by their situation. Poverty is the most difficult cycle to break.

If you try to teach girls and women that they're more than just something to look good for men, you're a hairy-legged man-hating feminist. If you try to teach boys that girl and women are human beings and not primarily there for their pleasure, that's making them less masculine (whatever that might mean).

So, combine immense pressure from society, peers and family to look pretty and get a boyfriend (or to "be a man" if you're a boy), lack of education, lack of resources and a general lack of will to help those who need help and you have kids having sex before they're ready (emotionally and physically).

I'd rather the media stop making sex look so enticing while hypocritically telling them 'no'.

So much word. I don't have a problem with sex or portrayals of romantic love per se but I *do* have a problem with the way it's treated as a marketing tool while at the same time there's a general lack of education about the subject.

I don't know what happened to the people you know, so I can't comment on your feelings there (although kudos for recognising that you do hold a grudge). All I'll say is please remember that not every situation is the same.

I highly recommend getting your hands on some feminist literature about this subject if you're genuinely interested in knowing more about the subject.

Also, lol redundancy in the last line. That'll teach me not to proofread more carefully.
