Have you ever choked up at a scene in a parody?

Whether or not the scene was meant to be touching or whether it was supposed to be a big joke.

That one thread a few days ago reminded me of the Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged Series episode "The Man Who Would Be Steve." IDEC, no amount of joking will make that falling-through-the-meteor-smoke shot anything but gut-punching to me. My childhood memories are imprinted too strongly.

TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE HEART

That song and that scene are forever associated with each other in my head thanks to that. <3

There's plenty of scenes in DBZ Abridged that have been major gut punches, especially relating to Trunks and Gohan's frustrations with his dad. I honestly rather like their serious moments just as much as the silly ones.

Only if someone cries on screen.

Yes, I've cried/gotten choked up at parodies . I think it's because there has to be a core kernel of truth for there to be humor, and if the core is inherently sad or distressing, then even a joke about it can be sad.

Not exactly a parody, but this episode of Jake and Amir made me cry the first time I saw it:

It's a comedy show, so I wasn't expecting it. :(
