Re: Unpopular Opinions
(Anonymous) 2015-08-23 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)Many Palestinians are full citizens of Israel, with full voting rights and members in the Israeli parliament. There are even Palestinians who quite willingly enlist into the Israeli army and are happy there. Perhaps you want to go tell them they're wrong.
Gaza was given to the ones that aren't as a fully independent territory, originally. They held their first elections, and then elected Hamas, which actually oppresses them as well, and since then Hamas has been shooting rockets at Israel with money meant for the Palestinian people. If you're going to bring up the blockade, please mention that they are blockaded by Egypt as well.
If you're going to talk about colonialism, why aren't you talking about the fact that Jordan is a country made up of mostly ethnic Palestinians, which are ruled over by the Hashemites, who are not, and their participation in government is extremely limited. In addition, the methods of control by the state of Jordan lean to the draconian.
In case you were interested, lately ISIS has been making inroads into Gaza. It remains to be seen what the effects will be, and whether or not they will manage to actually take control. There are plenty of Palestinians uninterested in being ruled by ISIS, incidentally. Some of whom would rather be ruled by Israel.
Again, you persist in simplifying a situation which is actually complex, and that simplification helps nobody. Especially not if you're trying to advocate actual justice, and not just vilify Israel because it's popular (which if you are, carry on I guess. Nothing I say will make a difference).
