If you can swing the cost, I recommend a tablet as opposed to say, a Kindle. Far more versatile for stuff besides ebooks and I love my Samsung Galaxy Tab.

It depends - I got a Kindle 7 HD on sale; it was a little bit more than a paperwhite, but still cheaper than many tablets I priced out. I use it to read (95% free books from Bookbub), watch Netflix, surf, and play a few games. It's perfect.

get last year's model of whatever, the year-to-year changes are often pretty small. like I'd never upgrade from iPad Air 1 to 2
