Steven Universe is a VERY slow burn. It starts getting serious in episode 13, has its first episode in a different style at 25, and shifts completely over to that style at 50. I think season 2 is worth it, but all that little stuff is relevant in order to understand it, so there's not a lot you can skip. (At least the episodes are only 11 minutes.)
