1 - that's kind of the general point? If any trans actor applied for the role, they know that's part of being in the spotlight.

The problem in this case is it's a young kid role. Trans people get enough shit as it is, that kid would be getting fucking death threats for being out.

You honestly reckon the director gave even one second's thought to this (hypothetical, not necessarily a barrier) reason, and went, naaaah let's eschew trans representation for their own good and hire a cis actor for their own safety?

oh for god's sake, "we're protecting you from yourself!" golly we can't cast a black person in a movie about racism cause it might give them negative feelings. it'd be much better if we cast a white actor and put them in blackface. 0:) how great we saved that minority pain!
