I actually think you do lack perspective. You were careful and still got assaulted, therefore EVERY woman who is careful will be assaulted! Because that's totally logical.

That's stupid and not at all what they're saying.

They're saying preparedness is basically orthogonal to whether or not you'll be assaulted.

You cannot deny a connection between preparedness/awareness and safety. The fact that women are discouraged from getting blind drunk and sleeping naked in alleys is a GOOD thing. It adds a layer of protection.

lol

yeah, that's definitely the base state that people are trying to change

It seems that way? The more militant arguers will insist that women should be allowed to do these things without fear of assault. Granted, people should (in a perfect world) never fear assault, but we don't live in a perfect world, therefore we have to learn how to protect ourselves.

I agree, I totally SHOULD be "allowed" to do these things without fear of men choosing to sexually assault me.

....go on, now read the rest of the comment. Jesus.

...and? I feel ENTITLED to walk the streets at 2 fucking am. The fact that this means I'm in danger makes me fucking FURIOUS.

But no, so much of this dialogue is around "men will be men!"

The fact that you think women need to be TAUGHT not to get blind drunk and sleep naked in alleys is telling. Wow. Thanks for the tip. That's usually my go-to Thursday activity. I had no IDEA that might make me vulnerable. Rapists CLEARLY only go after rape women who deposit their drunk naked, undefended bodies into alleys. Rapists hang out in alleys, right? Like rats or something. That's why it's great that there's particular behaviors that'll prevent a rape attack - because those are all the same, too. Like bears, you just have to know the right behaviors. If you don't provoke them by being drunk and naked in their territory, they won't rape you! Let's start a huge 'don't sleep drunk and naked!' campaign! For extra protective layering, let's start a 'provide free blankets for drunk naked chicks!' drive. Let's make bartenders responsible for providing drunk naked chicks with trenchcoats before they go home! Hell, before we let chicks go out to get drunk and naked, we should put them into some tamper-proof underpants! Wait a second, we should be doing something about the rapists too - I KNOW! We'll block off the alleys! Stop up the sewers!

Or maybe, JUST maybe, we could stop pretending women as a group need magic extra lessons in common sense, we could stop pretending victims are responsible for preventing their attacks, we could stop pretending that certain behaviors are guaranteed to either invite or avoid attack.

Hell, while we're at it, we could start, as a society, to accept that everybody has body autonomy, that all sexual touching should be between mutually consenting and aware adults, and any method of pressuring or forcing another human being into sexual contact is wrong.

But no, clearly you're right, and we need to get this epidemic of the naked drunk chicks sleeping in the rapist alleye under control, STAT!

I think you replied to the wrong comment, but still, +1000.

Ugh, this. I am still baffled by how your previous comments are being interpreted as "I should be free to engage in high risk behaviour and how dare you criticise meeeeeeeeeeeeeeee".

Also, EIGHTY PERCENT OF RAPE IS COMMITTED BY A PERSON KNOWN TO THE VICTIM. AVOID *THAT*.

Gotta "love" how the OP keeps ignoring male victims as well.
