You can. A Kindle comes with an email address, that you can look up on Amazon in your account information, and might also be on the Kindle itself. You need a downloaded fic in mobi format - AO3 is great for this, or you can download in another format and convert it to mobi. Calibre is a good program for this.

Once you have your downloaded fic in mobi format, you can email it to your Kindle. Beware! If you don't do this over WiFi, Amazon will charge you for receiving the document over data. You can go to your account settings and put a $ limit on how much you'll pay for a document download over data. Of course, if you have a WiFi only Kindle, you don't need to worry about it.

I assume you can email your document from your regular email account, but I've always used Calibre to do it. Give Calibre access to your email, and it will send it for you to your Kindle and voila! Fanfic to read on your Kindle. I've been known to download and send a ton of fics to my Kindle in preparation for long weekends or vacations where I know internet will be spotty.

This is pretty bare bones, if you google "email documents to my Kindle" you should find step-by-step instructions on how to do it, in case I forgot anything.
