No, I like this comparison. Yugi and Yami are awesome characters.

I'm pretty sure the original story was at least partly conceived as wish-fulfillment, y'know, kids wishing that they could magically turn into a stronger, more confident, cooler person in order to be good at things/impress people. So the comparison doesn't seem that stupid to me.

and Takahashi has said in interviews that he knew an arrogant snob who basically said something like "until you've bought 100,000 cards, don't even bother to talk to me", so there's that aspect of the wish fulfillment as well (since Yami/Yugi kick Kaiba ass at least twice).

As long as that part of you stays firmly on the Duel Monsters version of Yami and does not cross into the original manga's territory, I think that's a fine analogy.

Otherwise, gimme your address so I can tell the cops.

Maybe they just like playing games with people though...

This is a great comparison, actually. Even setting aside the thousand-year-old spirit, Yugi has proven himself able to become bold in the face of injustice. It's a great, heroic quality, so it's awesome that you see it in yourself!

Yes! I think Yami helped Yugi become more bold and confident himself throughout their journey.

Also, <333 your icon!

there has been a lot of yugioh in my life recently and it makes me happy.

Maybe it's a FS wave of nostalgia! (Or it might be because of the upcoming movie.)
