I've never read any Yugioh fic, but based on what I know about universal fandom behavior, I will bet anything that large portion of fics with him involve this kind of thing.

Can anyone who's familiar with this fandom's fic confirm?

It's been a while since I've been in the fandom but as far as I remember there wasn't that much bondage fic, at least not in the Yami/Yugi parts. Some outsider POV fic noted the dichotomy of sweet innocent Yugi and his chains & leather outfit.

The chains played a bigger part in the fanart, iirc.

The fic for this fandom is pretty old and a lot of it has been lost to time. I don't recall it being particularly kinky and what I've found on ff.net and AO3 was pretty normal as far as kinks go. The doujinshi, though. Those could get pretty fucked up.

This secret is reminding me of how much I used to guiltily* enjoy all the whumpage scenes in YGO. The manga was even better for it because it always seemed edgier and sharper. Maybe I should revisit that manga :D

*guiltily because I didn't know anything about kink at the time and thought that I was "mean" for feeling tingly about characters I liked getting beat up

Oh man, I felt the same way about YGO and quite a few other kids shows -- I always thought that I was the only person in the world who got so tingly about scenes with my fav characters tied up or in pain, and continued to think so until I discovered online fandom.

And one of the reasons I liked anime was because it seemed so much more gratuitously whumpy and the way the characters were animated let them be so much more expressive about the whumpage than western cartoons (like, say, the DCAU, which I also watched). Kids' anime from the 90s just w a l l o w s in depicting whump in loving OTT detail.

I haven't read the manga except for a few scanned scenes online, but maybe if I can find an affordable copy, I should check it out...

I also thought "not much of a secret", but I will second the "I would totally buy this shirt at Hot Topic" comment above mine.

(And I'm laughing at comments about YGO fanfiction being tame because I remember it being full of weird kinky stuff-- D/S, mind control via telepathy/possession, mind games sans telepathy/possession, hatesex, incest (thank you Kaiba family in all your fucked-up glory), that fursuit of Joey's, and occasionally even girls.)
