I used to be mad about this shit, and now it's gotten to the point where I'm just horribly sad.

Black man shoots a couple of white people after writing a manifesto that's "gas the kikes race war now". I wonder where all the liberals who always cry that mass shootings aren't about mental illness and we need to examine the ideology behind it are going to be.

I don't feel any compunction about saying that his view of the world was fucked up and wrong.

I also don't think it's a particularly common view and I find it much harder to trace causal connections between it and popular mainstream movements than it has been in the case of some other shootings.

Wait, liberals DON'T cry that mass shootings aren't about mental illness?

I thought liberals were the ones always bringing up that it IS mental illness and the conservatives making it about religion or race.

This guy was so very clearly mentally unstable. I thought it proved the liberals right.

It's an extremely complicated dialogue, with many levels.

But I think you could some up the recent state of the dialogue as left-wing people wanting to talk about either (a) gun violence and gun laws or (b) extremist ideologies, and conservatives replying by citing mental illness as the sole contributing factor.

All the liberals I know do a mix of both, i.e. 'we need gun control because people ARE mentally unstable'

FWIW I don't think most liberals would discount mental instability as a cause, it's more a question of emphasis

What liberals are you talking to? The ones I know blame a culture of violence and the glorification of guns, and if anyone suggests that people like James Holmes may not be entirely of sound mind, trot out the old chestnut "but statistics show that people with mental illnesses are more likely to be victims than perpetrators of violence!"

These days my online interactions outnumber my offline ones, sad to say.

AFAIK the talk I hear (IRL) is liberals going 'more gun control pls so they arent lying around for mentally unstable people to pick up' and conservatives are going 'hdu if we restrict guns then only criminals will have guns and we can't defend ourselves' repeat ad nauseam

personally I can see the points of both sides of this, anyway

I wonder how many conservatives really care about the fact that anyone was shot and aren't just using this case in order to gloat "SEE LIBERALS? BLACK PEOPLE CAN SHOOT WHITE PEOPLE TOO LOLOLOL"

Well, the shooter was still male, like they always are, so I really don't see any conflict.
