I'm not sure when its heyday is supposed to be. I bookmark my favorite articles and I think I have around the same amount from each year. But I could see how some people wouldn't like the more serious tone they have sometimes these days with the personal experience articles.

Well, I know that Daniel O'Brien was best before he got so personal.most of his "my brief time as/with" articles were hilarious, and he doesn't do those anymore, choosing instead to write about how people don't understand shy people (narrowly defined as "people who act like him")
And the photoshop contests were better before there were several a week.

I realize this is all vaguely anecdotal and subject to manipulation via nostalgia, but it sure does seem like there were fewer articles that had points that were just plain wrong back a few years ago.
