Re: Myths you used to believe
The truth is people lie all the time, chiefly to themselves. They betray you and feel guilty about it. Or don't want to face consequences anyway. Or they're just not who they portray themselves as (which is usually what they actually want to be). They then make sure you don't find out about it. They do this because they care about you--or because they want you around--but they do this. They then come up with lies to themselves to justify doing so.
I used to be a pretty gormless moron about these things. The thing is you have to keep the myth going or else things fall apart. You can't live your life acting as if you know all this, that's no life to have. Make sure you cut out the jerks you catch, though. Spoils immersion.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-28 01:37 am (UTC)(link)It doesn't always have to be a bad thing, though. People are what they are.

(Anonymous) 2015-08-28 12:43 pm (UTC)(link)I've found out this to be true both with myself and with others. I think that's just how human mind works. We don't see or tell things as they are but rather tell stories about them, to both ourselves and to others. It has been great for my mental health to realize that I can change my own story.
We create ourselves again and again as we go along.
