This. There's something condescending and snotty about someone who thinks they need to be a devil's advocate in a given situation. As if ohhh, thanks, people couldn't possibly lay out the entire argument for themselves without you, O Noble Internet Avenger!

And of course there's the natural suspicion that people use it as an excuse for why they shouldn't be held responsible for their repugnant opinions.
