(Anonymous) 2008-02-05 12:46 am (UTC)(link)2) It bothers me particularly with Rei because she is such a huge sex symbol in anime, not because the art is so good and she is drawn so beautifully (she looks even younger than 14, imho, because the art is so childish), but because she let Shinji grab her breast and did nothing. No consent = rape, and it's really disturbing to me that that seems to be the reason she is so fetishized.

2. I think a lot people have the hots for her general character design, rather than her. Quite a bit of the fanart i've seen of Rei gives her very womanly breasts and hips, and I rarely see people drooling over screenshots of her.
The breast-grabbing... eh, it's pretty common in anime for a girl to be treated as a sexual object and do little or nothing about it, or even happily accept it. I doubt an instance of groping is the reason people are attracted to her. It's definitely not why I like her.

(Anonymous) 2008-02-05 03:31 am (UTC)(link)... then why even bother saying that you're attracted to canon Rei? If people redraw her, then obviously it's not her design they're attracted to. If womanly breasts and hips are all it takes, why do they have to be Rei's? Canon Rei is abused, practically catatonic, and has no will of her own. If that's what gets you off, I'm sorry, something is wrong with you. It's incredibly creepy.
