He does. He's just very sheltered because his parents kept him confined to the manor (they didn't realize he was a clone, he thought he was their real child) after they got him back from his "kidnapping" so he basically spent from 10-17 living in a huge fancy manor and being spoiled rotten. He's a brat because of it, but he's very definitely a teenager with a teenager's mindset (he makes comments about a female character having impressive boobs on a couple of occasions so he's clearly well aware of sex and sexual things).

My assumption was always that he automatically inherited the brain development and personality of 10 year old Luke, so the only thing really missing were his memories.

He didn't know how to speak or how to move at first, I remember Guy saying that he had to tech Luke everything.

Hm, I forgot about that, but I still must have assumed the knowledge was in there and he just had to do some things to get it back at first. Either way, nothing about his personality (even pre-haircut) is believably seven, even a mature seven.

That said, though, I'm not sure I necessarily agree! Luke is technically seven, yes, but he was "born" at 10 and was immediately rushed through all the things he should have learned by then--so while I do think he's immature, I'd say his mental age is really more like 13-14 than 7. In that sense, his progress as a person is actually kind of astonishing.

I do agree that their relationship becoming romantic was tropey, and not exactly perfectly handled (it seemed to go from platonic to romantic very suddenly), but to be completely fair, it wasn't romantic romantic until the very end, and nothing was ever "consummated" about it, as it were. SPOILERS AHOY FOR ANYONE ELSE but depending on who you think Mr. Ending is in actuality, it might become a consummated romantic relationship after his return, but even if it is Luke's personality/memories, his fusing with Asch would have brought him up to age as well, so at least there's that.

Meanwhile, I've always preferred Luke/Anise, hahaha

I disagree. Their relationship is tied to Luke's character development. It's there throughout the entire game, and builds up really well. If anything, I'd say Natalia/Emo-Luke were more tropey. I didn't really get why they were in love with each other (I was glad to learn she wasn't related to him, because Ew)

Yeah, Natalia/Asch was weird for me. I justified it to myself by thinking that it was really more that after finding out about Luke, Natalia was super shaken-up and just wanted to reconnect to her childhood (and thus Asch, not Luke), but that's probably more headcanon than anything. I've never really been a big fan of the "he's mean as hell but is secretly nice/loving underneath it" romantic trope, so it really never worked as a ship for me.

Asch got on my nerves. I understand that what happened to him was shitty, but when you compare him to Luke who has this large sweeping character development and turn, to a guy who spends the entire time whining about being the 'ash' of Luke, it doesn't really make him all that likeable. I hated the open ending, too.

I was okay with him, but he's certainly my least favorite of the major characters. I found all of the other God-Generals infinitely more compelling, even Sync, who I'd probably classify as even whinier than Asch, haha.

I guess I kind of understand the reasoning behind leaving the ending technically ambiguous, but I could swear that I read an interview somewhere with one of the lead writers that basically said "it's ambiguous in-game but we always had it in mind that it was Luke's memories and personality inside Asch's body." Plus, the left-handed sheath for the Key of Lorelai (Luke being left-handed, Asch is a righty). So I was happy with that.

I agree! The romance felt incredibly forced and unrealistic.

I don't know, one of my least favourite things about this game is how the entire party pretty much acted like they despised each other for almost the entire story? It was pretty difficult for me to enjoy any of their relationships, or ship anything at all, because of that. It also says a lot about the characters that the best I got to caring about any of them is: "Jade is interesting, sort of? And Natalia and Guy are mostly pleasant, I guess?" The plot was great, at least!

Really? I thought all the crap you have to go through to get back Tear's mother's necklace was nice development for them.

I...really don't agree with this? The party all seemed to be on pretty good terms. Sure, Tear and Jade gave Luke a hard time sometimes, but he basically asked them to, to keep him from getting complacent again. And I guess people got snippy with Natalia when her whims got them in trouble, but that wasn't often, and she admitted fault.

Idk, they acted like a group of people that didn't know/trust each other from the get-go (because that would have been unrealistic), but grew into close friends. Their relationships were my favorite part of the whole game.

idk sis, you'd have me with you if this was about Dizzy from Guilty Gear or something like that, but this one is pretty benign as far as I remember? then again it's been foreverrrr since I played Abyss so maybe i forgot a lot, but as far as I remember him being "seven" is pretty much just a technicality??

if he's effectively 17 in thought, just technically 7 in years, idk what you expect him to do, wait at least 11 years to date anyone at all? he'll be, in his mind, 28 years old before he's allowed to date?
