It does have the slight problem of being based on an abjectly awful series of books, but from what I've heard it mostly manages to work around that.

I've been meaning to watch it tbh.

Yup. It vaguely follows some things while getting rid of most of the horrible stuff (at least no Objectivism to speak of). It has its own problems, but it is still a lot of fun.
