The movie was ridiculous. I love it for that, but if you try to like it for any reason other then how silly it was you are going to have problems.

Maybe the director thought it was deep? Maybe he was on drugs.

The movie is a big summary of Anthy and Utena's character arcs from the TV show. There was no time for subtetly, nuance or ambiguity and there is just the raw substance of the story. I also think it helps the people understand the ending of the TV show better.

Also I like it because it's pretty as fuck, it's with characters and a story I love. It's silly and on the nose but if you survived all the Nanami episodes you're going to survive the movie.

His most recent work uses bears as a metaphor for lesbianism. (And also lesbianism as a metaphor for lesbianism.)
