18- TL;DR comment, sorry.

When I was younger, I was taught (by teachers, and my family) that people were either 'good' or 'evil'. Basically, the world was black and white, with no area inbetween. My family have very strong views on criminals, believing that anyone that commits a crime should be sent to prison, and anyone that commits murder should die themselves- (Now, I'm not trying to compare myself to Light, but I can see how his childhood and how he was bought up could affect the way he viewed justice)- Obviously, growing up around views like this, most people would hold onto the views their parents and family taught them; but I disagreed strongly to those views. I am hoping to study law at university, and to somehow work within the legal system to identify and prevent wrongful convictions, and I strongly disappove of the Death Penalty.

Why is this? Basically, from studying, researching criminals within the media and having conversations with people with varied opinions I discovered that the perception of criminals my family and I (to an extent) had was slightly childish. You can't group say, a shoplifter and a murderer into the same catagory. There are reasons behind every action, and each crime is different, some people may be shoplifting to make money to feed their children, some people may have killed accidently while trying to defend themselves from harm. I don't believe Light was 'wrong' in the beginning, however I don't believe he was 'right' either, his ideals for the world were very childish, which sparked into somewhat of a God Complex after being given such a great power from the Death Note.

In my opinion, he crossed the line from something 'justified' (in his eyes, at least), when he began to kill people that simply got in his way. If he'd carried on killing criminals, you could perhaps try to emphathize with his views on why he 'had' to kill them. But he didn't, he strayed even from his own ideals and in the end, his sense of justice. So I'm finding it incredibly hard to understand why you think he should've 'won'? Wasn't he planning on getting Mikami to kill the people he'd spent the past six years with, who, for the most part, trusted him completely?

This is all completely TL;DR. In the end, he was willing to sacrifice people who thought they could trust him, to become a 'god'. You can't group people into 'right' and 'wrong', however many criminals he killed- yes, some of them may have been cold-blooded killers- and I agree, they deserve to be punished; but Death is a step too far. All human lives are equal, no matter how hard you look at it, no-one has the right to decide whether people live or die.

THIS COMMENT IS SO LONG, I WENT ON A HUGE TANGENT, I'M SORRY.
