When you have to build a lot of things in a short amount of time, do you want to do a beautiful job or an easy job?

There are just more people to cater to now, and if you want something cheap and fast it's not going to be beautiful. Back in the day you could go to a tailor and have clothes specifically made for your body (for relatively little expense) that would look good on you. Today no one has that time or that extra cash unless they're very fashion conscious.
