The only casting for Morpheus that I had accepted for Morpheus would have been a younger-than-now David Bowie, with Tilda Swinton as Desire. Since that's not really possible anymore, I don't want anyone else.

Ohhhh, younger!Bowie would've been perfect. Tilda's a great pick as well.

We are in total agreement.

I really can't see Bowie as Dream. They just give off completely different vibes. I mean, yes, Bowie is good at doing the unearthly gaunt alien-ness, but he's just coming from a totally different place in almost every other way. All of the darkness and solemness and anger and quietness that's in Dream - I can'treally see Bowie pulling off those elements of the character. He's too fey to be Dream, which is a weird thing to say, I know, but there you are. I would honestly rather see Cumberbatch than Bowie at any age.

Personally, I always preferred Bowie as an actor than a musician, so I think he could have pulled it off. Considering roles like the one in Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence, I think he manages the things you mentioned quite well.
But that's a matter of taste, I guess.

I actually don't think Cumberpatch would be too terrible - at least he has the right voice and could really look a lot like Morpheus with the right hair and makeup.

He managed just fine in The Hunger, but if you'd rather see Cumberbatch than Bowie... well, we're from two different worlds, you and I.
