I think you're overthinking this anon? What did you do that was wrong? Or didn't do? You made the life guard aware and showed the child you cared with out breaking any social boundaries? You acted appropriately.

Well that was a bit of hyperbole, I was not actually planning to drown a child. Although I admit I did harbor some nasty thoughts of figuring out which one she was and giving her a good ducking by grabbing her ankle underwater. My sister did that to me enough as a child that I know it's scary but ultimately harmless.

To be clear I did not do this, because I'm a sane adult, but I suppose part of it was a little projection revenge-fantasy. If I could go back in time to the girls who treated me that way I'd certainly love to see some stranger scare the shit out of them while they bullied me.

Although again, I did not actually at any time seriously think of doing this.
